Owned by the St Labre Indian Educational Association, it has provided an educational opportunity for the younger Northern Cheyenne and Crow children to have a working ranch experience. This Ranch is located approximately 5 miles North of Custer, MT and the Yellowstone River. The Bighorn River, a renowned Blue Ribbon trout stream, converges with the Yellowstone River only 10 miles away from the ranch. This stream, famous for monster trout, flows North from the Yellowtail Dam at Fort Smith. The dam backs up 55 miles of reservoir filled with walleye and trout, and offers fabulous recreational boating as well. Looking up from the reservoir at the edge of 100 foot cliffs you will often see the Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang herd roaming on their Preserve. The historically famous Little Bighorn Battlefield and Custer National Cemetery is also roughly an hour’s drive from the ranch. This superbly located Ranch land has been well cared for and the management indicates it has never been overgrazed. The improvements consist of one main Ranch House: a 2,288 sf, 2003 double-wide that has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The second house, built in 1975, is 2,624 sf and has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The shop is 26’ x 61’ and is heated. There is an exceptional processing area surrounded by metal fence, along with a barn, loading chute and sorting alleys that lay out over approximately 5 acres and in good condition. The processing drum and squeeze chute are designed for buffalo as well as cattle and are built stoutly. There is power that services 15 of the 16 wells that feed the 23 watering tanks scattered across the ranch. There are also various reservoirs. There’s great access to a county road, and the fences have been upgraded due to wildfires that came through the ranch in 2021. The regrowth of the grass is fantastic! Not only will you see complete elimination of sagebrush in those areas, but the grass, much of which is knee-high, is being allowed to go to seed and has not been grazed on in 2022. It is a great experience to travel over such a wide spread parcel of entirely deeded land. The offering of the St. Labre Ranch is a more than rare opportunity. Showings will be to qualified Buyers only. Please call Pat Schindele, Broker/Agent 406-591-2551 with any questions.
